It was important to celebrate the sixtieth anniversary of Yves Saint-Laurent's first haute couture show with dignity and, of course, style. To do so, no fewer than six Parisian museums, including the largest, have joined forces to create a totally extraordinary exhibition: Yves Saint-Laurent at the Museums. Throughout his career, Yves Saint-Laurent often stated how much art inspired his creations. This assertion becomes readily apparent when visiting this exhibition. Displays of the clothes created by the legendary fashion designer have been set up in the galleries of the greatest Parisian museums, drawing attention to parallels of forms, light, and colour. Whether it is classic works or more contemporary creations, the boundaries between the two worlds are erased, giving way to an aesthetic, a genius that is simply unique.
The great Parisian museums honour a great creator
To pay tribute to Yves Saint-Laurent, the Louvre, Musée d'Orsay, Centre Pompidou, Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris, Musée National Picasso and the Musée Yves Saint-Laurent Paris have joined forces and collections. Each contributes a piece to the edifice that is the work of Yves Saint-Laurent by examining different aspects of his oeuvre, showing both how he was influenced and how influential he was. At the Louvre, the designer’s love of gold and light is in the spotlight in the Galerie d'Apollon. At the Musée d'Orsay, dress codes and gender identity are questioned through a dialogue between the writer Marcel Proust and the couturier. At the Centre Pompidou and the Musée d'Art Moderne, Yves Saint-Laurent is placed at the heart of contemporary creation.
